Question:  

Does SFC/SCANNOW result in the replacement of updated system files (from 
Windows Updates) -- replacing them with the older (obsolete) system files from 
the installation CD -- thereby breaking various Windows Updates, or Windows 
entirely?  

Windows 98 seemed to behave that way.  Is this fixed now, in Windows XP?
