I fully expect more and more moves to be made by Microsoft to circumvent gutting proprietary stuff.

I know if I had spent years & years developing a brand name with a decent enough reputation [whether you like the rep or not] I sure wouldn't want some back wood hick to remove all the branding info that I placed on the machine. Heck, this hick brands the boxes that I sell & I wouldn't like it if you removed all that info. I sure would appreciate any assistance in this effort whether that assistance came from MSFT or Andrews Computer Service. Several times now I've had a buddy of mine down the road a piece [next city over] repair a system for me because they could get to them faster than I could as he lives closer & he kindly did the repairs without removing my branding but he did leave his business card taped inside the cover of the machine & one with the client which I have no problem with. This buddy of mine has reciprocated several times just because that's what buddies do. I don't try to steal his clients & he doesn't try to steal mine. I'm sure there are some areas where he would prefer to do things [however slightly ;-) ] different than I do & vice a versa but it ain't no big thing & we confer quite often as a matter of professional courtesy.

I'm probably wasting my breathe but why don't you learn how to clean up a branded box without having reloading the OS & only charge the client for your time?

While you're doing the clean up you could be telling them gently [no soapbox] about what you perceive as short comings in that machine & how you'll try to help them with ANY of their computer needs in the future such as building them a new box while salvaging parts from the old machine as much as you can, thereby saving them money & providing them better service than the name brand manufacturers can. In this way I have developed a fairly large clientele for a hick out of his home. Oh I also like to make in home service calls where as my competition does not but many times I've discovered heating &/or ventilation problems that couldn't be diagnosed in a shop.

Just a suggestion & YMMV but probably NOT.
