You may have started running into weird network issues due to
the number of machines on that lan subnet. How many machines
are on that subnet? How many connections (sessions) to that
printer did you have to kill off? You may want to check for
machines that have "printer monitor" type software running and
turn off monitoring of all printers or turn off monitoring of
that printer on machines that do not need to connect to that
printer. Printer monitor type software has a tendency to make
"keep-alive" connections to monitored printers.
Alternatives may be to increase the number of connections
allowed to the shared printer. Or split the subnet to have
smaller number of machines per subnet. Or ... ?
