Exactly, why I asked on the list, I figure I'll get a bunch of responses and

It was good enough, I just wanted to make sure you were taking into account 
all the factors, like warranty and such. If the CRA (Canadian version of the 
IRS) comes back and asks for a justification on the amount of the tax receipt 
issued, I need to be able to answer appropriately.

No, I know the manager well enough.

Whether I trust their figure or not is irrelevant, I have to get a second 
opinion as per CRA regulations and if there is an audit, I need to justify 
the amounts. 

Wayne, not dissing your comments. Let me rephrase my question to you 
specifically then, would YOU, pay US$500 for the equipment?
