URLs is because their email client breaks long URLs. Since most
people are NOT going to switch email clients then resorting to the
standard < and > is the easiest & fastest way we can help them out
while assuring the paranoid among us that the url has NOT been
changed to something naughty. FWIW I'm sure the Bernie in the past
has provided us with the spec that tells us to use the standard <
and > & that message is located somewhere in the archive as well.
OBTW when I view all headers I see that all addresses are enclosed in
< and > & there must be a reason for that.
