I suggest you click on Display Properties, Settings, Advanced, and under DPI
settings choose "large size" to satisfy your S.O.'s presbyopia problem.

One could change the size of icons & various desktop text in Display Properties, Appearance, Advanced button in the lower right. Also the mouse cursor size can be changed in Control Panel, Mouse, Pointers.

The moral of the story is that it's always best for the monitor & for the person's eyes if one runs the monitor at it's native resolution therefore everything should be adjusted to the monitor & not the other way around.
