Actually QEMM had developed something prior to anything MSFT did with Himem. I was using QEMM w/ AST 6 PackPlus prior to DOS 3.x. They called their patched memory Expanded then MSFT got off their caboose & brought out Extended memory that fit in between the DOS memory allocation & Expanded. I still remember having to reconfigure everything thanks to MSFT so I could continue to run the Desqview multi window software. This was more like X-Windows in *nix today but it prepared me for when Intergraph CADD went to an X-Windows like environment a couple of yrs later.
