Tim, Thanks for the answer. I was aware that the cable co. controls my modem and that higher speeds are available. My question was really related to the reasoning behind providing the higher speeds to users (at no additional cost). I haven't paid too much attention to the market for internet access these days and was wondering about the reasoning. I was suspecting pressure from other providers but not sure.
As to the upload speed, I haven't had problems with the 768 except occasional cutout since I've switched over to Vonage for my phone. Do you (or anyone else) think moving to the 1.5 makes sense if running voIP? Their network runs at *much* higher speeds than your modem allows you to use. They tell it how many bits-per-second to allow for your uploads and downloads. This allows them to control the load on their network. Are you having problems uploading data? Do you frequently have to wait for huge uploads to complete? Few home users upload much at all. POST and GET commands to web sites, short commands to POP3 and SMTP servers, maybe commands to USENET servers. If you're not spending time waiting for uploads to complete, then don't spend the extra money. -- Tim Slattery [EMAIL PROTECTED] -- ---------------------------------------- WIN-HOME Archives: http://PEACH.EASE.LSOFT.COM/archives/WIN-HOME.html Contact the List Owner about anything: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Official Win-Home List Members Profiles Page http://www.besteffort.com/winhome/Profiles.html
