There may have been a problem with this message when I first sent it.

My old router failed a couple of months ago and I have been running with a
software firewall since then. A couple of nights ago I finally replaced the
router with the Belkin describer below (btw, there are apparently two products
with this number and mine is the one on the Belkin web page). Throughput had
dropped dramatically. I use NetPerSec to monitor and it shows throughput
bouncing as high as 800 or more kbs, but the data comes in waves, often
dropping down to 0 for a few seconds and then bouncing back up to speeds of
200-800. I am running an RCA cable modem that I have had for a few years with
Comcast cable internet access.

Absent some easy fix I'm inclined to return the router (used only as a firewall
for my single wired box) and use a sw firewall such as ZA.

Any thoughts?
