Does anyone have a quick answer to why it is not recognized by my Sylvania?

Did you look up the model # at videohelp.com & did it say whether that model even played DVD-R disks? Some DVD players do NOT play any recordable optical disks. My Philips DVP-642 will allow one to dump pics in data mode to a DVD-R disk & play them but other players that will play movies from DVD-R disks don't support data from them therefore one needs to make a video of their slide show. PicturesToExe supports this, there is a plugin for Office 2k [not 2k3] that allows converts Powerpoint Presentations to video then Nero's Vision Express & Ulead's Video Studio allows one to incorporate still images in their DVD Video creation yield essentially a slide show video that will play on any stand alone player that supports recordable optical disks.

Nothing beats researching the exact make & model on videohelp.com & maybe avsforum.com prior to purchasing. Even then asking general questions like why does my shirt NOT get white when I wash it with out more details doesn't bode well for getting answers that actually work. If we have to guess at the details then you'll have to guess at which answer is correct & that's if anyone even tries the impossible. Sorry but them are the facts. Heck you didn't even give us the model number so we couldn't even do the research for you because we don't have anything better to do. By any chance do you have an owners manual? Years ago my old man told me that they were for reading & not so that I could eat the covers as I belched.
