In the ongoing debate concerning the slow AVG scans, here is my 2 cents worth:
I ran a "complete scan" this AM, using AVG v 7.1, with the following
results on my machine, (specs below).
Objects - 95949
Manual scan - 20 min 53 sec
No virus found
Machine: Dell 4700 with 2.8 GHz Pentium 4 processor
Windows XP Pro
512 Mb RAM memory
AVG is the ONLY antivirus program on this machine. Other programs
running include AdAwareSE, Webroot SpySweeper, and Spybot S&D. The
registry is kept clean by Registry Mechanic v 5.1.0.224. Seems to me
that those having really long time scans with AVG may have some other
program(s) or conflicts that are causing their problems. Have I
missed anything???
