If you go back and read OP's question, the manual answers it. That's was
the only reason I suggested it.

It's not a great manual, but it must be read in context. The reader is
expected to know that dual channel functions against *pairs* of modules. So
obviously, with 3 modules, only 2 can be dual channel. An asterisk and
footnote were left out. With some motherboards, all modules would drop to
single channel when 3 are installed.

"Something wrong with my logic above"

I have to agree ... :-)

The manual does say that three modules can operate in
dual-channel mode. ASSuming the manual is correct, what is the
combination that would give dual-channel mode?

I knew B1 always had to be populated and matched with *either*
A1 or A2 for dual-channel mode using 2 slots. But which is the
so called third slot for 3 slot dual-channel mode operation, A1
or A2 (or even B1 for that matter)? ASSuming color coding,
B1/A1 would be matched [B1/A1 are the same color], making A2
the so-called third slot. But we know the color coding rule has
been broken by the B1/A2 combination. ASSuming the so-called
third slot (whichever it is) can indeed still function in
dual-channel mode (it says so in TFM), it would have to be 1Gb.

All the above is still a hell of a lot of ASSuming ! Especially
since TFM doesn't specify anything other than slot B1 has to be
*populated* for dual-channel mode.

There must be something wrong with the logic above if the "be
surprised to see it in a m/b at any price point" is correct
since TFM says dual-channel mode operation can be achieved
using all **3** memory slots. TFM must be wrong. :)
