And tons of thanks -- it worked like a charm [and the LCD display is a 
real stunner... wow!].  I booted to 'VGA mode', and in poking through the 
docs with the monitor it claimed to have its own driver, so I installed 
its driver, then changed the resolution and it all was perfect.. even 
better: when I then switched accounts, I discovered that the other 
accounts were all switched and had the right settings...  YAY!
