Subject: Re: HARD:Case Fan needed?
But to say that ALL computer cases need a fan is like saying that every
car NEED a supercharger or a 426 Hemi and cost does play a big part in
massive mass production because 10c here is $10 at the end.
Putting a front and a rear case vent fan in a computer is just one of many
improvements to give it some wiggle room or extra cooling capacity. Overall,
computers have not followed electric motors, automobile engines, central
heat/ac units and other equipment in extra built in capacity. Our first
central heat/ac heat pump in 1987 included with our custom built house
sounded like it was working hard when it was running. So did my first 1.5 hp
pool pump motor. Then you could say that hot weather wore out units
prematurely by working them too hard. Now the newer units (we have replaced
both) purr along effortlessly. They do not care if they have to run 24/7 as
running is easy for them. My guess is they are running at 50% of their
available torque or less, the same as my little 4 cylinder car engine is
running when I purr down the Interstate at 75 MPH. In the past you would
burn up a 4 cylinder running 75 MPH all day.
Yes, I am very excited every time I am around modern machinery and
equipment. I see it running effortlessly and it does not care if you run it
24/7 as it never strains as long as it does the task that it was designed to
do. Until 10 or so years ago, everything seemed to struggle to do its task.
Only a small portion of computers have this built in extra capacity. At
least if a fan goes out in a case that has 2 fans, it is not as critical as
if the one and only fan quits. I freely admit to being lazy when it comes to
manual labor. Why not get more work for less effort from people and
machines? I do not like to see machinery in a strain any more than to see a
human in a strain doing routine work. Both will last longer if there is less
strain in performing tasks.
People over 50 years old relate lots better to the older equipment that
strained to do its tasks. No longer should humans, computers or any
machinery have to struggle like that or be overheated. If you want your
vehicle to be able to operate without strain or overheating with its
capacity of passengers and a trunk load of luggage and perhaps pulling a
light trailer, then why not have a full compliment of fans in your computer
case?
