Also, on systems that old, a failing PSU is not all that unlikely.
Try swapping in a working PSU, after reseting the memory, and see if that
helps to get things working.  Also, some mobos are finnicky and you
need to press down firmly to seat the memory (not so firmly as to
crack the traces on the board, esp. the mobo. is already installed.)
