Re-reading I didn't make it quite clear where I was getting my values
from ! Generalising a bit too much ! ;-)

I agree. The point that I was trying to illustrate was the very high
values of current found in and around those circuits. I also took data
from the "Maxim" CPU PSU circuit data where they show a design for a
multi stage switch mode PSU supplying 100 Ampere at 1.4 Volts.
In addition mentioning the 5 Volt supply value was intended to show that
the voltage rating of the capacitors was not being exceeded ! I should
have made it clear that I was referring to the CPU voltage and
current !

I'm glad I didn't mention the switching frequency in that context
