I never said anything about size: only "server" vs "desktop client".  
Client systems can easily run behind strict firewalls that leave user-
initiated problems as virtually the only vulnerabilities. Servers cannot 
afford that luxury, and so they can be easily and constantly probed.

Not when you make basically incorrect statements about it.  The fact is 
that there is a LOT known about computer security, the nature of of 
threats and vulnerabilities and techniques and mechanisms to make 
penetration more difficult and mitigate the damage if you are penetrated.
I'll happily agree that you choose to run your system a lot less securely 
than XP will (easily, IMO) allow you to and that you're comfortable with 
that decision.  I'll not agree that by any standard of normal-security-
practices that your choices are prudent for users-at-large [whether those 
practices are prudent or not for YOU is your problem, of course].
