not good.  oddly, the source patch itself went fine (except for a
minor glitch with the top-level makefile).  what didn't go fine
was the bzImage build.  it died trying to do patch vmlinuxmki.lds
from the patchfile mkildspatch (generated by netraverse).  this is
not a vanilla rh7.1, but has the SGI XFS patches (but i don't see
anything in this file that is related to that, and i did the same
patch at 2.4.3 when i tried mandrake 8.0).  i tried fixing the source
manually, but the system hung during boot.  not sure if it's related...
