Hmmm, seems to be an issue with either the boot disk or the win95b cdrom....

there were a couple of tgz files on the boot disk from when I was working on 
a clients firewall. Removed those and that cleared up the "cluster chain 
error"

Then did install with a win98 boot disk and pointed install to the cabs 
sitting on the fat32 partition on this laptop. Its installed and am 
installing Quickbooks2k Pro at the moment.  Rather freaky to see the windows 
desktop knowing Linux is just a ctrl+alt+f7 away..... ; - )
