I can only think that GW Micro is being funny about this because of its
connection to Jaws. GW Micro and Freedom Scientific are, by definition, blood
enemies and fierce rivals.

Hi Everyone and - wherever you are - I trust you're comfortable whatever the

Had an interesting discussion with someone earlier on today regarding the
Vocaliser voices and what Screen Reading software will work with them.

Here's a summary of what I know and others may wish to add comments or correct
me if appropriate.

A licence can be purchased to unlock the Vocaliser voices with NVDA for $75.00,
15% of this charge goes to the developers of NVDA as a donation - NVDA is a
Free open source Screen Reading package -.

A licence can be purchased to unlock Vocaliser voices for Window-Eyes at a cost
of $99.00.

Vocaliser voices can be used with JFW, download for free from the Freedom
Scientific web site.

So given all these facts we've been tossing around several questions and trying
to come up with some logical answers.

How is it that a licence for Vocaliser and NVDA is only $75.00 and yet for
Window-Eyes its $99.00? Why are GW Micro asking people to pay for a licence
when Freedom Scientific include all that stuff in the purchase price?

Yep, i take the point that Window-eyes is somewhat cheaper to buy than is JAWS
however! when it comes to flexibility and available options? Well perhaps one
can argue that the extra price is well worth paying and its all about
perception isn't it, I mean you get these extra voices for "Free!" so to speak
when you buy JAWS where its an extra outlay to have these voices for
Window-Eyes and marketing these days has a lot to do with perception.

And finally, perhaps I'm writing to the wrong list but all the Screen Readers
mentioned here are - along with the Vocaliser voices - are indeed pieces of
Windows software, hence my reasoning <smile>.
