Here's an interesting point, the only programme in Office 2007 that seems to
use the ribbon is MS Word, everything else uses standard menu structure.

In Office 2010 everything uses the ribbon.

Haven't tried Office 2013 and don't think I'll be doing so in the future but
you know the old saying, "Never Say Never".
