I agree with Lio on many points here, if you're happy using the Microsoft product then keep using it and a lot of what has been written seems to have been written just to justify the chopping down of 10,000 trees or something as the writings didn't serve much purpose.
People will continue to use the Microsoft product whatever's written about it for the simple reason that its built-in to the operating system which is very convenient. I'll continue to use Vipre and why? Because I'm paid up well into next year for coverage on up to ten PC'S here so no good reason not to stop using it. Another factor in the discussion of PC security is how most people deliberately ask for trouble and I don't want to sound nasty or selfish but the fact is that they do. Okay, sometimes people don't realise the trouble they can get themselves into because they don't think about the consequences of their actions and we've all been guilty of that at some time in our lives. The common example is seeing a web site offering free this or free that type of software to fix some problem on your computer, the software turns out to be a piece of malicious code designed to steal data from your system and before you know it your bank account is empty etc. The argument goes that a good Internet Security package should have prevented this from happening? Yes possibly but when its all boiled down the user could have prevented this from happening, in other words the majority of security breaches are avoidable by using a little common sense of behalf the the computer user.
