Hello everybody
As a result of quite a let of frustrations when using Dushbury
Braille Translator with both NVDA 2013.3 and Window-Eyes version
8.3, I have opened discussions with appropriate parties with a
view to acquiring Jaws version 15 for Windows Vista/7/8/8.1
64-29t operating systems. It is quite likely that a purchase
will take place sooner rather than later.
I'm currently mulling over the advantages and disadvantages of
each flavour of Jaws, as in Jaws Professional Dongle and Jaws
Professional AT.
Obviously, if we decide to acquire the dongle version of Jaws,
it would mean that I could deploy Jaws on to multiple machines
and there would be no problem running it as and where required.
However, it would obviously mean that only one machine could be
used at a time.
Therefore, the Internet activated version would give me 3
activation keys. The disadvantage being that there is no
mechanism currently in place to redeem an activation should a
deployment need to be moved from one machine to another, with the
original being deactivated.
The only method "one could use for doing this would be to go
through the dealership and hope for their cooperation. Were this
not to be forthcoming, any re-deployment plans would have to be
scrapped.
As we all know, as current technologies change, so it sometimes
becomes necessary to upgrade hardware. So effectively, such
re-deployment would then be at the discretion of the Jaws dealer
and/or Freedom Scientific themselves.
I would welcome constructive comment regarding which edition of
Jaws others would think most advantagious, and why. Currently,
I'm tending to think that the Internet activated edition would be
the best way to go. But there may be factors which I have not
considered, hence my throwing the discussion open to the group.
Another factor to consccder, I guess, is that Duxbury is also
based on an Internet activation mechanism. However, in this
case, the removal of the product from a machine also resets the
activation status if that machine is on line at the time of
removal. But continually installing, removing and reinstalling
would be urksome and probably counterproductive. therefore,
frequent redeployment would be unlikely.
Comment welcome, and constructive comment even more so.
Kind regards
