The common thought amongst computer users seems to be that the process of backing up data is lenghty, complex and time consuming, conversely the process of data restoration from a backup doesn't have any appeal whatever so therefor hardly anyone bothers to "Backup" data.
Yes, the process of backing up data and restoration can be a bugbare but I do believe I've found something which makes the whole backup and restore thing as easy as its ever likely to be on a Windows PC. Before I talk about the software I should also point out here that there are plenty of backup solutions which will backup your documents and other data for your convenience should anything go wrong in the Cloud but there's precious little which will enable you to get a Windows system back on its feet and going again in minutes as it was before something went wrong and lets face it, if you want data you've backed up in the Cloud then you have to have a working Windows system to access and download that data. I've been using the Image For Windows backup/restoration software for Windows which does a sector by sector backup of your hard drive. The data can be copied to an external hard drive, set of DVD ROM discs or any other media that takes your fancy. There are many free utilities and add-ins available for Image and I found one that's truly worth its weight in gold, well actually two. The first works in conjunction with Image as it backs up your computer, it creates a boot DVD but at a very smart level, the utility monitors all the backup actions so when the time to restore comes all you have to do is to insert your boot DVD into your computer and boot from it, make sure you have the backup media handy - whether that be hard drive, DVD backup set or whatever - and the boot DVD will fully automate the restore process from start to finish and what you end up with is a booted talking Windows system. The next utility is an absolute bonzar of an idea. So you backed up your computer but something's gone utterly wrong, you can't access the computer but you can access the data of your backup from another computer? So time to build a DVD backup set along with a bootable DVD and Image has a utility to do this, the application takes all the data from your backup hard drive and converts it into a DVD backup set with the first DVD of the set being a bootable DVD. Now here you may require some sighted assistance when booting the DVD on the computer to handle the restore but believe me it does work and what's wrong with a little assistance, it only takes a minute and the whole goal is to get your computer up and running. ********** Dane Trethowan Skype: grtdane12 Phone US (213) 438-9741 Phone U.K. 01245 79 0598 Phone Australia (03) 9005 8589 Mobile: +61400494862 Fax +61397437954 ======================================= To post to this group, please send your message to: [email protected] The Windows-Access E-Mail forum is guaranteed malware, spyware, Trojan, virus and worm-free To modify your subscription options, please visit your personalise subscriber options page, located at http://mail.tft-bbs.co.uk/mailman/listinfo/windows-access You can find an archive of all messages posted to the Windows-Access forum at either of the following websites: http://mail.tft-bbs.co.uk/pipermail/windows-access/index.html Or: <http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]> you may also subscribe to this list via RSS.
