Hi David

I totally agree with your last comment. I have access to Supernova, Jaws,
Window-Eyes, NVDA and Access2Go, so I guess somewhere there I should find the
best option.

Kindest regards

Forgot to mention Window-Eyes and NVDA

In practice I have not encountered any web site so far that Jaws can handle
that NVDA cannot handle as well. This is not to say that such web sites do not
exist but I have not come across them.

My experience using Window-Eyes is different though. With one exception I have
found that both Jaws and NVDA outperform Window-Eyes on the web. Sometimes
Window-Eyes just does not cope. For example I had to assist a person struggling
on the Tesco site with her Window-Eyes and switching to NVDA caused her problem
to disappear. Window-Eyes seems completely unable to cope with my Nat West
Banking site and freezes, again closing Window-Eyes and switching to NVDA
allowed normal access to the banking page, I did not even have to reload the
page, NVDA picked up the elements immediately.

I have learnt some work around to cope with some of the Window-Eyes problems.
For example on the BBC iPlayer pages the play button is invisible to
Window-Eyes but will become visible if you refresh the screen. However both
NVDA and especially Jaws can pick up this button without any issue.

The one exception, to be fair, was on a recent Amazon Check out where I was
stuck on an option for Amazon Prime which I did not want and there appeared no
way to proceed without agreeing to a trial of Amazon Prime. However on loading
Window-Eyes for Office I was able to check out normally without invoking this
trial.

It just shows for the best options for access on Windows you ideally need not
just multiple browsers but multiple screen readers.,.

Subject: Google Chrome Versus Mozilla FireFox Versus Internet Explorer 11

hello everybody

I have a question for you all, and I’d very much welcome as broad a range of
opinion as possible as this will be of great assistance to me here at work in
an academic project where I’ve been briefed to produce a report detailing the
functionality of these web browsers on the Windows platform (first) and their
performance and interaction with as wide a variety of assistive accessibility
tools as possible.

Actually, I am probably going to need to test others, Opera and any others I
can come up with in addition to the first three.

Regarding screen-readers, I have direct access to Jaws 15, Window-Eyes 8.4,
Supernova 14, Access2Go, (I’m not sure of the latest version build here), and,
of course, NVDA 2014.3. I’m going to have to learn Jaws pretty thoroughly and
pretty quickly I think. Supernova and Window-Eyes are products with which I am
very familiar. Oh yes, and in addition to those we also have to consider
Dolphin Guide v9.0.

Another factor which I need to consider is the huge variety of websites and the
very many differing designs. I have until September to produce this, and I
really want it to be a thorough, factual and very detailed document. If
anybody has any comment which they’d like to make here, I am very receptive to
feedback, and grateful for any tips.

But it doesn’t stop there! I also have to include as much detail of each
product as possible regarding Braille, and the feasibility and otherwise of
using Braille as the sole interface when browsing the Internet. Personally, I
think that it’s probably not going to be particularly easy to browse the
millions of websites which comprise the Internet using Braille alone. But it’s
something I’ve been asked to do. And finally, the hardware aspect of Braille
comes into the mix. I have direct access to a number of displays, but, sadly,
I do not have access to anything like the Braille Sense or the Braille Edge 40
from Hims. Maybe the RNIB might be willing to help me out there. I can only
ask.

Kindest regards
