Response to questions from Mary Deibis, University of Michigan - Flint

**** Do you provide installation instructions? If so, would you be willing
to provide a URL for us to view them at?

We don't provide intstallation instructions for the card.

**** Do you install wireless cards for your students?

Generally no. People can pay a fee for one-on-one support of this type.

**** Do you provide FAQ's?

View our knowledgease at http://kb.indiana.edu/ and search on "wireless" to
view our 39 entries on wireless.

**** To what extent do you provide helpdesk phone and/or walk-in support
for:

Installation? As needed. Hasn't been much of a burden to date.

 Maintenance? Same.

Do you recommend a specific wireless card? If so what brand(s)?

Not really, though we state that we have had the most experience with the
Orinico card.

What security measures have you taken?

Wireless nodes get private IP addresses via DHCP and must build a PPTP
tunnel to a VPN server to get off the wireless subnet. This provides both
authentication (against ADS) and encryption of the wireless stream. The
knowledgebase at http://kb.indiana.edu/ provides detailed click-by-click
instructions on setting up the VPN client for most operating systems.

The same VPN server doubles as a remote VPN service for off-campus users to
get an encrypted stream over the internet and to appear as if they were on
campus (ie have a campus IP number) for access to certain services.
