At UR we have an Avcom Spectrum Analyzer (approx $5,000) which is good for the
physical layer, but you need to know the signal patterns of each device you are
working with. Also, being able to use the spec an to capture the patterns of a
frequency hopping device can be a trick in a dynamic RF environment. Knowledge
of the spectrum is a good tool to have.

We also use the Airmagnet Spectrum Analyzer which is an OEM of the Cognio
product, now Cisco Systems. Outstanding system and makes troubleshooting noise
much easier with their expert system.

Subject: [WIRELESS-LAN] Wi-Spy device: Spectrum Analyzer

We are looking for a spectrum analyzer. We have read that Airmagnet is a
good solution. We are curious if anyone has experience with the less
expensive USB Wi-Spy device?

Thanks in advance, much appreciated.
