I am back from my trip to Japan. Did some warbus'ing (I was in a bus, so I wasn't driving) and picked up four open networks in downtown Yokohama, around their train station. Not much wi-fi in general. The Wi-Fi coverage in Narita Airport is spotty. They use some sort of a proxy/redirect type service. Auth via MAC tables in access points seems to be the popular way to provide/prevent access.

Anyway, as promised earlier, here are some pictures of the 3G card used by folks in Japan. It is the "FOMA" brand by NTT DoCoMo.

But there is no love (read Wi-Fi) at Starbucks...just lousy coffee, nothing new.
