try TopoUsa software.  if you get the co-ordinates from both sides using a
cheap
GPS,  you can plug the lat/long into TopoUSA and generate a 'profile' of the
terrain.  example (see bottom of page) :

1.)  draw two 50' vert. lines at each end*.  this is your antenna mast/pole

*if your worried about trees just print the profile.  with a large marker that
can draw a 0.125" line*,  trace the profile.   this would be approx equal to
50' trees all over the place.

If you still can connect Pt A to Pt B then you should be fine.,
