*   A UNIVERSAL MODEL FOR THE FIRST MILE NETWORK ACCESS IN RURAL 
AREAS? (5-6 JUNE 2003)

The UN ICT Task Force and Sida are arranging a workshop on this 
theme. The host is the IT-University, Kista, Stockholm and the 
location is: Sandhamn, Utö or Kista, Stockholm, Sweden.

The purpose is to identify successful technical solutions and 
standards for access networks (First Mile), as well as 
sustainable business models for operation and maintenance of 
such networks which could be disseminated as best practices.  
The workshop will present and discuss successful examples
of communication applications in developing countries and rural 
areas with an emphasis on schools and small businesses and their 
role as primary adopters in communities. Speakers will include 
Americo Muchanga and a presentation on Wino Email over HF Radio
