I mentioned in another post you must have missed what one of the things I used it for was. I made a battery pack w/4 AA NIMH rechargeable batteries to use with it & would throw it in my laptop bag w/my 12" p'book & a zip-linq ethernet cable. Then I'd sit at my favorite local coffeeshop & surf the open APs. Had a Senao card in there so it was a great performer.

Bought one WET11 at Comp-USA(place is terrible) it's a version 2 though, easily identified by the name Cisco located discreetly on the box. It's terrible doesn't pick up anything, build quality seems worse than the original. This uses a different weaker stock radio & even has a smaller antenna. The web interface is useless tried three browsers w/no ability to load the config page or use, finally tried IE(surprised it was on my machine) & that worked, but the page loaded w/ garbled graphics. The firmware was from Spring of this(last year '04) pretty current & of course to upgrade you need to use a Windows .exe file not handy on OSX. On the box it states it's cross platform & will be happy w/anything w/ethernet, what a load. I'm hoping I don't get hit w/a restocking fee as the product did definitely not perform at as promised. At least I've been happy with Linksys's WRT54G & GS.

I bought one on ebay today for $45 after missing 2 or 3 wet11 auctions that closed at under $20 within the last day or two. I just finally got a great setup w a 13db outdoor panel antenna that's actually pretty small about 8"x 8" x 1.7". Seems to work great tried it w/my mom's ibook... pigtail snaked under the keypad the panel antenna duct taped to back of screen, much better results than with my cantenna's good gain, but very directional.

I purchased the cables & antenna from fab-corp.com, received the items really quickly(2-3 days) packed well, & everything of high quality. I purchased some LMR-400 N male to male cables, have relized since that in one case at least I need a Male to Female cable, anywhere locally I can order some adaptors(RP-TNC to SMA & such) & gender changers. I was told for the N connector I can order from Radio Shack not positive about their goods quality.

Thanks for the BAWUG note about Mac parts and services, we might avail ourselves of them sometime.

Sent the below to you on the 23/Dec, but you might have missed it in the holiday rush.

   Any suggestions?

Thanks for your time and help in these matters.

Sorry to hear about your loss of the 12" PB and other items.

my modified Linksys WET11
I too have a 12" PB and was wondering what you used the WET11 for? To increase the range of the PB's somewhat anemic antenna setup?

I notice that the WET11 is a bridge. What I'm looking for is a ( hopefully ) inexpensive bridge that I can use wirelessly ( i.e.: no ethernet cords, etc. ) to boost my range and connect to one of the SFLAN setups near my apt. in S. F. I would like to be able to put the bridge in my window, have it connect to SFLAN, then access the bridge from elsewhere in the apt. where the SFLAN signal is much weaker, or non-existant.

   Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks for your time and help in this matter. And good luck on recovering your PB!

Glenn
