Not to mention cost... most people balking these days at paying $350
just for a pair of copper to run a T-1 on, when AT&T charges another
$150 / month for the bandwidth...

Why is AT&T ordering wireless links? They can put a T1 anywhere they
want. I don't get it. I would certainly be suspect of that also.
