Not sure what you mean by "better".... What was better for me was the IBM
I just got off the UPS truck today. My old Dell basically fell apart.
This new IBM looks way more rugged than the Dell but yet is "better" in
price than the toughbook by about 2k. Now I know this IBM can't be put
through what a toughbook could, but it is a nice laptop for the price.
It's got the built in LCD roll bar and shock detection on the hard drive.
Better than your run of the mill Dell or HP.

If you need ruggedness, you may want to consider daylight-readable

you can see the screen of an ordinary laptop LCD outside in sunlight.

are various versions of that technology, too. Some have super-bright
backlight and some use the sunlight in a reflective mode. My Nokia E61i,
for example, is a phone that has a full browser (and Wi-Fi) and is very
viewable in bright sunlight in it's reflective mode screen.
