If you're looking at implementing VoIP with a system that's standards based, I'd try to find something that utilizes the Atheros Super G capabilities (WMM, Packet Bursting, Compression, Fast Frames).
These can really help with VoiP in two main ways: WMM - A subset of 802.11e (QoS). Prioritizes data traffic based on 4 categories (Voice, Video, Best Effort, and Background)...
