If I understand correctly, There is no limit. But I vaguely remember something about OSPF being unstable with 500+ routers. As you start to get to much crosstalk overhead. If its a big area you would need to do like OSPF and BGP I don't remember how it went, something like transit routes with ospf and advertise the customer space with bgp...
