Both are feasible, though technically terminating would result in less loss since a splice adds another point of attenuation, if small. It also depends on the type of splice. Fusion splicing provides the best splice result though a mechanical splice might be faster and avoids the cost of renting a splicer. Terminations (which also do not require rental equipment) are much simpler than when I was a fiber tech and should not cost you much.
