OK, I know you don't want an engine, but I know 2 people the took the knife off a cultivator (see your farmer neighbor if you don't know what talking about) and mount it to the back of you garden tractor or 4-wheeler. Feed the cable right behind the knife as you pull it through the sod. Almost as good as the machine and may not cost anything if you can find a broken knife that will work.
