Use 128 bit security. If you are really paranoid, change the password once in a while. Without security setup on WiFi, anyone can link in and then spend all day hacking into your firewalls.
I let a friend of mine put a wireless access point in my house so he could get internet across the street from me. He's an IT guy, so I assumed he'd set security. Nope, he was thinking the MS way, security through obscurity, figuring no one would randomly come across the signal and use it. Of course, we have a few apartments within a block... within a week, my cable modem connection was bogging down. Yep, we have a few people using my connection via his access point. Set 128 bit security and a password, and not had a problem since. I'm not an IT guy, but I think it helps if you also set a user and password login on your computer. And set password access only to your hard drive and printer shares. And don't use your name! I worked for a realtor for a couple of years, she accepted their default user name (they usually gave her a wierd string of numbers) but used her name as the password for everything!
