Another benefit of WLAN can be cost as well.
Scenario: Create a link between 2 sites that is about 30 miles apart.
If you plan to use fiber, then you have two options.
1. Hire the men, equipment, supplies, etc which may cost upward of
$50,000 a day to do about 1 km a day to have your own fiber feed between two
sites.
2. Pay monthly lease fee to a telephone company that can reroute fiber
connection from one site to their CO and back to the second site. This can
be somewhere from $5000/us per month to $10,000/us per month
Using WLAN, you just need to pay the men, equipment, supplies for 4 days. 2
days per site and you don't have to worry about *any* monthly fees.

Network ?
As a general rule, wired networks will have much greater data
throughput than wireless networks. Optical networks can transfer data
in the Gbps range while WLANs are limited to about 100Mbps at best.
The benefit of WLANs is not the throughput but the mobility.
