OK, if that's the case, but that was not my understanding. I read the
following from the users manual and this was the way I thought it should
work:

Criteria Separators
To group criteria, select the position between the criteria you want to
group and do either of the following:

Choose the Insert Criteria Separator command from the Edit menu.
Right-click and choose Insert Criteria Separator from the context-sensitive
menu that appears.
Only the logical operator cell can be edited for separator items.

Upon execution, the criteria before the separator are combined with the
criteria after the separator using the logical operator specified in the
separator line in the criteria list.

I understand what you are asking

But... :-(
The "Insert Separator" was put there so that if you wanted to add a
variable reference or custom column

It was not intended to be a logic grouping separator
Like (this and (this or that))

You really need to go to directDBMS for group logic.

Or could put all the logic on both side of the OR
But this is limited to just one OR

Subject: Witango-Talk: Criteria Separator

All, I'm having a problem that I thought I knew the answer to but now
it
seems what I "knew" is not working. My environment is Windows 2000,
Witango
5 and SQL.

I have a number of selections in a search. For example,

        Selection Set 1
and Selection Set 2
and Selection Set 3
and Selection Set 4
and
        Selection Set 5
or Selection Set 6

I thought that by right clicking inside of the search Criteria and
dragging a criteria separator where I needed it would allow me to
accomplish
the above. It looks good when I drag it but when I close the search
object
and reopen it the and on the line by itself goes away and all criteria
are
set to ands.

I need the query built as above where all of the first 4 are true and
either of the last two are true. What Witango seems to be giving me is:

        Selection Set 1
and Selection Set 2
and Selection Set 3
and Selection Set 4
and Selection Set 5
or Selection Set 6

which is not the same logic at all.

Am I missing something? Shouldn't I be able to do this without using
a
direct DBMS action?

   Thanks for your help!

   Sincerely,
   Gene Wolf
