It works because in a standard installation, it is set up for you. However there is a feature that allows a Witango/Tango client (i.e. plug-in or CGI residing on the Webserver box) to talk to the Witango/Tango server running on a different box. Depending on the platforms involved, these two boxes could even reside on different platforms.

If you look at your clients.ini/t4client.ini file you will see the listener port set to 18100 and in your witango.ini/t4server.ini files, it is also set. If these two pieces resided on different sides of a firewall, you would have to open up port 18100 but for most, they reside on the same side of the firewall.

Hope this helps,

Steve Smith

Interesting... I never noticed that before. Now, since I don't have port
18100 open, I wonder why T2K works?

As I know, the standard Port where Witango is listen, is Port 18100... and
not Prt 80 (Http)

Pls, see your Witango configuration file. Here you also can
change the Port
!!!

LISTENERPORT=18100

Now I'm confused... and I've got both CF and Tango on the same machine.

What "ports" do you open for Tango? or CF?

I don't have any special ports open for either. Tango and CF requests
both
come in on port 80 with html.

The only port I open special is for MS SQL which answers on
1433, and that
is the same for both CF and Tango.

Is there something I've really got screwed up?

CF use a another Port as Witango. So here is no problem.
The same for PHP; asp; etc...

I have done a lot of work for a client and they are hiring somebody
else to do another project and they want to put it on the same
machine. This other developer works in CF and I'm just curious if
any of you are aware of any problems with having Tango and
CF running
on the same machine (W2K server with T5).

Any experiences?
