In your configuration, make sure you specify your smtp server as an IP address and not as a domain address that has to be resolved. Better yet is to run an SMTP server on the same box (if you're on a Mac, that would be Webstar 4.x) and you won't have any glitches there. Just lock it down so that it only relays from that same IP address.
