Woah, I disagree... The strength of the custom tag is that I can develop something and allow a less technical user to use it.

For example our CMS has a blogging module that we built that uses custom tags. So to add the list of the latest posts to a page, a CMS user simply adds

<@erube_blog_post_listing numposts="10">

to the page they want the listing on

I could certainly do something similar with the @callmethod tag, but it's syntax would be far more confusing for a less technical person to work with.

Then again, TCFs are no more efficient than TAFs
either, but if using them can save the programmer time, then they are likely
worth it.
