Erik,

OCI is a "Yes & No" issue right now. Basically, I have not removed the
functionality from the server, therefore it should still work exactly how it
did in Witango 5.5 (that means that it's compatible with the 8i OCI drivers).
That said, I have removed it from the list of officially supported technologies
simply due to time constraints. Also, the new Studio does not support it and we
recommend JDBC for development.

Since we are fully supporting JDBC and testing with Oracle 10/11 via JDBC, this
is the configuration that we are officially supporting.

So, if you would like to upgrade to version 6, your applications should work
without change using OCI and 8i drivers. But as you migrate software forward on
the Witango 6.x platform, moving to JDBC will be recommended. This is
especially true if you want to use newer drivers and/or have full support.

Whether or not we go back to supporting OCI and possibly other native drivers
is still up in the air. Because all DMBS have either ODBC or JDBC support (and
usually both) these technologies are our primary focus right now.

Robert

PS. Feel free to request a Free License of version 6 and test it out.

Subject: Witango-Talk: OCI Support in OS X Server?

It's been ages since I wrote to this list, so forgive if I'm a little behind
the times. Am I reading correctly that OCI support was dropped in Witango OS X
Server 6?

We're considering an upgrade, but no OCI is a major shift for us.
