in mind when they set it up to work with the widget system, and why they
chose to do that instead of the template system.

In summary, Wt is more of a Web 2.0 application development tool. As Wt is
built through an object oriented C++ approach,
web pages become a hierarchical collection of objects. The objects allow
one to customize that portion of the web page for which that object
represents, which is the replacement for the templating approach. This
hierarchy of C++ objects represents quite closely the feel of the lower
level html code to which it renders (yes a bit of circular reasoning there).

As a bonus, Wt includes various forms of event handling for interactive web
sites, something might be considered more difficult and less elegant when
attempting to use a templating system.

Consider a CPP object a kind of a templated element.

Hope this helps a bit.
