I just gave it a try. I've good and bad news.

Good ones concern Google Chrome: the bug is gone. It reliably
works in every situation.

With Firefox there are still problems. Sometimes it works as
expected, sometimes it does not detect even a plain session
closure (plain means with no dialogs shown on top of it).

In such a situation, the output of a series of netstats commands
on the client machine follows:

# netstat -anp | grep 192.168.26.143
tcp 0 0 192.168.21.17:60449 192.168.26.143:1107
ESTABLISHED 6362/firefox
# netstat -anp | grep 192.168.26.143
tcp 0 0 192.168.21.17:60456 192.168.26.143:1107
TIME_WAIT -
tcp 0 0 192.168.21.17:60455 192.168.26.143:1107
FIN_WAIT2 -
# netstat -anp | grep 192.168.26.143
tcp 0 0 192.168.21.17:60456 192.168.26.143:1107
TIME_WAIT -

FIN_WAIT2 -
# netstat -anp | grep 192.168.26.143
tcp 0 0 192.168.21.17:60456 192.168.26.143:1107
TIME_WAIT -
tcp 0 0 192.168.21.17:60455 192.168.26.143:1107
FIN_WAIT2 -
# netstat -anp | grep 192.168.26.143
tcp 0 0 192.168.21.17:60456 192.168.26.143:1107
TIME_WAIT -
tcp 0 0 192.168.21.17:60455 192.168.26.143:1107
FIN_WAIT2 -

After a while, the connection is cut down but the server does not
detect this neither and the number of open sessions does not
change.

Do you think we should merely suggest our clients to use chrome
or would you expect firefox to behave properly?

Thanks,
Antonio
