Hi everyone,

I was trying to integrate the ODP.NET (basically the stripped down Oracle
Client setup) into our product setup. Don't bother thinking whether this is
a proper way to do it.. It was decided by the management. I've first tried
to execute the installation directly via a CustomAction:

<CustomAction Id="OdpNet.Install" FileKey="File_FF_998" ExeCommand='"some
working parameters"' Execute="deferred" Return="check" />

<InstallExecuteSequence>
  <Custom Action="OdpNet.Install" Before="InstallFinalize">$Component_FF_999
> 2</Custom>
</InstallExecuteSequence>

This because of the nature of ODP.NET bootstrap was throwing a timeout error
during the installation. The most probable cause is that a bootstrap's main
process spawned other separated process(es) which performed the
installation. But after spawning the new process(es) the main process
terminated (and moreover with invalid exit code). So the ODP.NET
installation was performed correctly but the main WiX installer was
rollbacked.

So I tried another approach. I made the batch file which executes the
installation and then terminates correctly. The OdpNet.Install action is the
last action in the installer so I considered it safe enough (yeah I told the
boss million times not to do it this way altogether). This can ofcourse
cause the installation to be successful even when the ODP.NET installation
failed. But I was told that this is acceptable (sure they want that ODP.NET
integrated so badly). The batch file is basically:

cd install
setup.exe -silent -sourceLoc "..\stage\products.xml" -responseFile %1
cd..

Now the problems are:

1) The batch file works when executed standalone. But the setup.exe is not
executed while the batch is executed from the WiX installation (weird). How
to make it run ?

2) A minor one.. The batch file when executed opens a new console window
which is inacceptable by the team management. Can it be executed silently
(no UI) somehow ?

I'm using WiX 2.0 and MSBuild (if anyone cares).

regards,
Kate
