Thanks John & Bob.  Brian Taylor had also referred me to Bob's article
above, but when i read it through the first time I didn't grok it properly
(apologies Brian).    So sounds like going the major upgrade route and
scheduling 'RemoveExistingProducts' will do the trick for me.    Can i
confirm one thing with you guys:  if i do this, RemoveExistingProducts will
still work to get rid of the previously installed version irregardless of
whether the 'changed' files have different GUIDs in the new installer,
right?  It appears yes because it will just automatically uninstall the old
version first without checking (and i do understand it's more inefficient
since some files will be removed with that and then put immediately back
with the major upgrade but that's okay).
