Sounds like the age old IntelliSense bug if it's using 50% CPU on a dual-core machine (as in 1 full CPU core). I see this on VS 2005 when opening our main solutions (which have 90+ C++ projects, 0 WiX) but I've got a Core 2 Quad (Q6600) so it doesn't bother me too much.
Ask Microsoft nicely if they'll fix it. It's only been an issue for 3 years or so..... IIRC there is a DLL you can delete/rename to completely disable IntelliSense which will stop it happening but if you want/need the features IntelliSense provides it's not much of a solution.
