Okay, I compared the output of the msbuild log and the devenv log. When it comes to this one project, the only difference in the candle command arguments was
-d"DevEnvDir=*Undefined if not building from within Visual Studio*" And the light arguments were the same. But for some result the outputs are not the same. It does work if I use devenv.exe from the command line so I guess I'll stick with that...
